What IS Gyaru, anyway?!
Gyaru is a Japanese fashion style that's bold, unapologetic, mazximalistic, and fun!
It all started in the 70s under the name "ganguro", then gyaru became really popular in the 90s and early 2000s, but it has been declining in popularity since then. However, it's making a comeback with the rise of social media and the internet!
There are many different kinds/substyles of gyaru!
Some gyaru substyles include:
- Hime gyaru -- Princess-like
- Tsuyome -- Bold and dramatic, heavier makeup, leopard print
- Ya/manba -- More extreme with bleached and colored hair and white makeup
- Goshikku -- Gothic gyaru
- Banba -- Barbie-style gyaru
- Onee gyaru -- Older sister style
- Gyaru-o (gyaru for men)
Gyaru is also a mindset! You must be confident and you can't care about what a boring world thinks of you.
Personally I'm a mix of a lot of gyaru substyles (favorites are banba and tsuyome). I got into it because I felt the world did not have enough color.
Most importantly: Get wild, be sexy! あげぽよ!!!
